Vietnam’s cashew nut industry
Vietnam is the world’s largest exporter of cashew nuts, with the industry playing a significant role in agricultural exports and rural employment across several provinces.
The sector relies heavily on imported raw cashews, while domestic firms focus on processing, value addition and re-export to major markets such as the United States, the European Union and China.
Cashew processing in Vietnam has shifted toward higher value products, including roasted, flavoured and packaged nuts, as companies seek to improve margins and branding.
However, the industry remains exposed to price volatility, input supply risks and rising competition, prompting a gradual move toward mechanisation and supply chain diversification.
