Vietnam’s fabric imports surge by 30.23 percent in March
Vietnam’s imports of fabrics increased by 30.23 percent in March, reaching US$1.34 billion. The year-to-date (YTD) total reached US$3.45 billion, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Exchange rate edges up as Vietnam C.bank injects over US$560 million via repo operations
The State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) injected VND 15.3 trillion (over US$562 million) into the banking system through three repo auctions on April 15, as the dong continued to weaken slightly against the US dollar, Tuesday.
Vietnam’s soya bean imports rose over 22 percent in March
Vietnam imported US$96.74 million worth of soya beans in March, up 22.12 percent from February, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This brought the year-to-date total to US$261.90 million.
Key Challenges in Vietnam-US Trade Negotiations: Unpacked
The US-China tit-for-tat trade war has seen tariffs on China rise to 145 percent and tariffs on the US reach 125 percent. As a key link between these two economies, this puts Vietnam in a tricky situation entering trade negotiations with the United States. Add to that the often contradictory objectives of its foreign-invested and domestically owned sectors and this should make for some very interesting negotiations.
Vietnam’s motorbike output up 6.1 percent year-on-year in Q1
Vietnam’s motorbike production reached 237,500 units in March, down from 253,000 units in February, reflecting a 7.4 percent decline compared to March 2024. Despite the monthly drop, total output for the first quarter stood at 728,100 units, marking a 6.1 percent year-on-year increase, according to data from the General Statistics Office.
Vietnam’s natural gas output declines in March
Vietnam’s natural gas production reached 570.0 million cubic metres in March, up from 439.2 million cubic metres in February. Despite the monthly recovery, total output for the first quarter stood at 1.47 billion cubic metres, down 7.7 percent compared to March 2024 and 12.9 percent lower year-on-year, according to data from the General Statistics Office.
Vietnam’s phone exports approach US$5 billion in March
Vietnam exported telephones, mobile phones and parts worth US$4.82 billion in March, up 9.95 percent from February, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Vietnam’s crude oil exports edge up 4.01 percent in March
Vietnam’s crude oil exports rose by 4.01 percent in March compared to February, reaching US$128.48 million, according to data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
China warns against trade wars as Xi calls for deeper Vietnam economic ties
Chinese President Xi Jinping has warned that “trade war and tariff war will produce no winner,” while calling for stronger China–Vietnam economic cooperation and a united stand against protectionism, in a statement posted on Vietnam’s Nhan Dan news site, amid a state visit to Hanoi by the Chinese leader.
