The US-China tit-for-tat trade war has seen tariffs on China rise to 145 percent and tariffs on the US reach 125 percent. As a key link between these two economies, this puts Vietnam in a tricky situation entering trade negotiations with the United States. Vietnam’s motorbike output up 6.1 percent year-on-year in Q1

Vietnam’s motorbike production reached 237,500 units in March, down from 253,000 units in February, reflecting a 7.4 percent decline compared to March 2024. Despite the monthly drop, total output for the first quarter stood at 728,100 units, marking a 6.1 percent year-on-year increase, according to data from the General Statistics Office.

Vietnam’s natural gas output declines in March

Vietnam’s natural gas production reached 570.0 million cubic metres in March, up from 439.2 million cubic metres in February. Despite the monthly recovery, total output for the first quarter stood at 1.47 billion cubic metres, down 7.7 percent compared to March 2024 and 12.9 percent lower year-on-year, according to data from the General Statistics Office.

China warns against trade wars as Xi calls for deeper Vietnam economic ties

Chinese President Xi Jinping has warned that “trade war and tariff war will produce no winner,” while calling for stronger China–Vietnam economic cooperation and a united stand against protectionism, in a statement posted on Vietnam’s Nhan Dan news site, amid a state visit to Hanoi by the Chinese leader.
