Vietnam’s imports of yarn reached US$251.94 million in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a modest increase of 0.60 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) import value to US$1.15 billion.
China remains the dominant supplier, experiencing a minor decline:
China continued to be the primary source for yarn imports, with a May value of US$177.30 million. This signifies a minor decrease of 0.89 percent from April but still accounts for a commanding 66.76 percent of the total year-to-date imports.
India, Indonesia, Japan, and Malaysia show significant growth:
Conversely, imports from India surged by 38.11 percent to US$13.98 million in May. Indonesia also recorded a strong increase of 29.92 percent. Japan‘s imports grew by 44.55 percent, and Malaysia saw a remarkable 85.80 percent increase. Bangladesh also exhibited explosive growth with a 228.54 percent jump.
Notable declines in imports:
Conversely, some markets faced substantial declines in imports in May:
- Pakistan saw the largest drop of 67.10 percent.
- Austria imports decreased by 53.21 percent.
- Thailand imports fell by 22.18 percent.
- The “Other” category saw a decrease of 18.74 percent.
- Netherlands imports decreased by 13.44 percent.
- Hong Kong recorded no imports in May after having imports in April.
The overall slight increase in May’s yarn imports suggests a relatively stable market in Vietnam, with China maintaining its dominant position while other suppliers show dynamic shifts in their contributions.
