Ceramics: Vietnam exports dip 4.70% in May

Vietnam’s exports of ceramic products reached US$53.92 million in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a decrease of 4.70 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) export value to US$262.69 million.

USA remains top destination, while other key markets face declines:

The USA continued to be the primary destination for Vietnamese ceramic products, with exports reaching US$13.09 million in May, a slight decrease of 0.52 percent from April. The USA still accounts for a significant 26.01 percent of the YTD total. Japan maintained stable exports with a minor increase of 0.02 percent. However, several other major markets experienced declines, including Thailand (-20.33%), Philippines (-49.13%), Laos (-28.70%), Australia (-27.16%), Malaysia (-18.58%), China (-20.16%), and Germany (-22.92%).

Indonesia, Canada, and France record strong month-on-month growth:

Conversely, several markets exhibited remarkable month-on-month growth in May, often from lower bases:

  • Indonesia exports surged by an impressive 111.29 percent, reaching US$1.74 million.
  • Canada exports jumped by 95.16 percent.
  • Cambodia saw a significant increase of 74.12 percent.
  • France exports grew by 63.20 percent.
  • The UK also showed a strong increase of 18.41 percent.
  • India and Denmark also recorded increases.
  • Austria and Iraq emerged as new export markets in May, with no recorded exports in April.

Notably, Russia recorded no exports in May after having significant exports in April.

The overall dip in May’s ceramic product exports suggests a fluctuating global demand, with strong performance from a few key markets like Indonesia and Canada, but tempered by declines in traditional major destinations.
