Vietnam’s plastics exports fall by 11.04 percent in January

Vietnam’s exports of plastics declined by 11.04 percent month-on-month in January, reaching US$157.81 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Indonesia remained the largest market, accounting for 18.90 percent of total exports at US$29.83 million, a slight decrease of 2.21 percent from December. China followed with US$17.75 million, representing 11.25 percent of total exports, declining by 32.89 percent. India ranked third with US$14.58 million, making up 9.24 percent of total exports, rising by 32.31 percent.

Compared to December, Italy recorded the highest growth, surging by 302.71 percent to US$5.12 million. Lithuania and Sri Lanka also saw significant increases, growing by 154.60 percent and 83.26 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, exports to Canada and Hong Kong declined sharply, falling by 45.18 percent and 56.31 percent, respectively.

The top five markets—Indonesia, China, India, Japan, and Poland—accounted for 58.94 percent of Vietnam’s total plastics exports in January. While some smaller markets showed strong growth, the overall decline reflects reduced demand in key export destinations.
