Vietnam’s plastic and synthetic rubber production rises in 2024

Vietnam’s production of plastic and synthetic rubber in primary form grew by 6.0 percent in December 2024 compared to November 2024, according to Vietnam’s Industrial Production Index.

Year-on-year, the sector declined by 12.7 percent in December 2024 compared to December 2023. Despite this, cumulative production for the full year of 2024 surged by 17.9 percent compared to 2023, reflecting strong annual growth in this industry.

The monthly increase in December highlights recovering demand in manufacturing and export markets. The sharp annual growth is driven by rising global demand for plastic and synthetic rubber, particularly for use in packaging, automotive, and construction industries. However, the year-on-year decline in December suggests temporary disruptions or seasonal adjustments.

As an integral part of Vietnam’s industrial sector, plastic and synthetic rubber production supports numerous downstream industries. Investments in technology and environmentally sustainable practices have enabled Vietnam to expand its share in international markets while meeting domestic needs.

The sector’s strong annual performance underlines its importance to Vietnam’s industrial growth and global supply chain integration.
