Vietnam’s iron and steel imports rose sharply by 50.89 percent month-on-month in February, reaching US$1.04 billion, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows January’s total of US$691.29 million, bringing year-to-date imports to US$1.73 billion.
China remained Vietnam’s dominant supplier, accounting for 56.61 percent of total imports at US$590.51 million, a 66.71 percent increase from the previous month. Japan followed with US$147.71 million, up 45.21 percent, while Indonesia saw a 35.46 percent rise to US$130.27 million.
South Korea’s exports to Vietnam grew by 30.48 percent to US$103.79 million, and Taiwan saw a modest increase of 5.19 percent to US$45.51 million. Meanwhile, the USA recorded the highest relative growth, surging by 433.49 percent to US$2.27 million.
Despite the overall increase, imports from the Philippines and Spain declined by 24.81 percent and 27.03 percent, respectively.
