Vietnam’s imports of wood and wooden products decreased by 23.24 percent month-on-month in January, reaching US$197.54 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows a decline from US$257.34 million recorded in December.
Year-to-date, Vietnam’s total imports of wood and wooden products stood at US$197.54 million. China remained the largest supplier, contributing US$93.79 million, or 47.4 percent of the total, followed by the USA with US$25.14 million, representing 12.7 percent, and Laos with US$8.17 million.
Among major suppliers, Canada recorded the highest month-on-month growth, increasing by 82.86 percent, while Indonesia also showed an increase of 20.17 percent. In contrast, South Korea and Russia experienced the steepest declines, with imports falling by 71.61 percent and 74.03 percent, respectively. Other key suppliers such as Thailand, Brazil, and France also posted significant drops.
The wood and wooden products market in Vietnam continues to be highly dependent on China, which accounts for nearly half of the total imports. While Canada and Indonesia showed growth, the overall decline from most suppliers suggests changing market dynamics and potentially weaker demand in the sector.
