Vietnam’s imports of chemical products fell by 22.5 percent month-on-month in January to US$541.67 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows a decline from US$699.25 million recorded in December.
Year-to-date, Vietnam’s total imports of chemical products stood at US$541.67 million. China remained the dominant supplier, contributing US$247.04 million, or 45.61 percent of the total. South Korea followed with US$59.80 million, representing 11.04 percent, while Taiwan supplied US$38.07 million.
Among major suppliers, Italy recorded the highest month-on-month growth, increasing 19.51 percent. In contrast, Germany saw the steepest decline, with imports falling 40.04 percent. The USA and Japan also posted significant drops of 30.53 percent and 29.93 percent, respectively.
The industry continues to be heavily reliant on China, which accounts for nearly half of all chemical product imports. While Italy’s increase suggests some diversification, overall imports declined significantly from most key suppliers.
