Vietnam’s imports of ores and other mineral products decreased by 14.15 percent month-on-month in January, reaching US$200.89 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows a decline from US$234.00 million recorded in December.
Year-to-date, Vietnam’s total imports of ores and other mineral products stood at US$200.89 million. Australia remained the largest supplier, contributing US$85.43 million, or 42.5 percent of the total, followed by Brazil with US$61.63 million, representing 30.7 percent. China supplied US$11.99 million.
Among major suppliers, Malaysia recorded the highest month-on-month growth, increasing by 282.52 percent, followed by Brazil, which saw a modest rise of 5.96 percent. In contrast, Turkey saw the steepest decline, with imports falling 89.03 percent. South Korea, Thailand, and Russia also posted significant drops of 68.53 percent, 73.84 percent, and 81.57 percent, respectively.
The industry remains reliant on Australia and Brazil, which together accounted for nearly three-quarters of Vietnam’s ores and mineral imports. The increase from Malaysia and Brazil reflects some shifts in sourcing, while the dramatic drops from South Korea, Russia, and Turkey suggest shifting market dynamics.
