Vietnam’s imports of glass and glassware fall 31.38 percent in January

Vietnam’s imports of glass and glassware declined by 31.38 percent month-on-month in January to US$82.39 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows a decrease from US$120.06 million recorded in December.

Year-to-date, Vietnam’s total imports of glass and glassware stood at US$82.39 million. China remained the dominant supplier, contributing US$57.28 million, or 69.55 percent of the total. Malaysia followed with US$5.87 million, representing 7.13 percent, while Japan supplied US$4.67 million.

Among major suppliers, Indonesia recorded the steepest decline, with imports falling 83.87 percent month-on-month. Malaysia and Austria also posted significant drops of 57.40 percent and 38.82 percent, respectively.

The industry remains heavily dependent on China, which accounted for nearly 70 percent of Vietnam’s glass and glassware imports. While all major suppliers saw declines, Indonesia and Malaysia experienced the sharpest reductions, indicating shifting trade patterns and possible reductions in domestic demand.
