Vietnam imported US$1.44 billion worth of goods from the United States in February 2025, up 24.23 percent from January’s total of US$1.16 billion, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This brought total imports from the US in the first two months of the year to US$2.59 billion.
The largest import category was computers, electrical products, spare parts and components, which reached US$518.11 million in February. This accounted for over 36 percent of the total and marked a 34.15 percent increase from the previous month. Cotton also recorded a major gain, rising 148.22 percent month-on-month to US$103.7 million, making it the second-largest import item.
Several categories experienced triple-digit growth in February. Imports of pharmaceutical products surged 169.59 percent to US$54.88 million, while parts and accessories of motor vehicles rose 308.86 percent. Pastrycooks, sweets and cereal products also climbed sharply, up 308.66 percent month-on-month. Other notable gains included precious stones and related articles, ferrous waste and scrap, and essential oils.
On the other hand, some key items saw significant declines. Imports of fruits and vegetables fell 47.85 percent to US$37.59 million. Soya beans dropped 26.02 percent, and “other products” declined by 22.90 percent. Fishery products and chemicals also saw lower volumes compared to January.
The upward trend in February was driven by robust demand across several manufacturing and processing sectors in Vietnam, supported by the steady resumption of supply chains. The United States continues to be a strategic source of raw materials, capital goods, and technology inputs for Vietnam’s industries.
