Vietnam’s imports from Australia fall 10 percent in February

Vietnam imported US$515.61 million worth of goods from Australia in February 2025, down 9.79 percent from January’s total of US$571.61 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This brought total imports from Australia for the first two months of the year to US$1.08 billion.

Coal remained the largest import category, reaching US$224.13 million in February, slightly down from US$237.93 million in January. Other major imports included base metals at US$77.86 million and ores and other mineral products at US$62.94 million, both showing month-on-month declines. Imports of wheat more than doubled to US$35.09 million, while cotton fell to US$21.62 million.

Milk and milk products remained stable at US$16.41 million. Fruits and vegetables declined to US$8.87 million, while imports of liquefied petroleum gas remained consistent at just under US$5.7 million. Animal fodder imports fell slightly, while pharmaceutical products dropped to US$3.60 million from US$8.87 million the month prior.

Several smaller categories saw mixed performance. Imports of chemical products rose to US$3.10 million, while machinery remained steady at US$1.88 million. Other food preparations, precious metals, and steel products all fluctuated within low-value ranges. Notably, ferrous waste and scrap dropped sharply from US$9.88 million in January to just US$243,386 in February.

Despite the overall monthly decline, Vietnam’s imports from Australia remained strong across key sectors including energy, raw materials, and agricultural goods, underlining Australia’s position as a critical supplier of commodities to Vietnam.
