Vietnam’s coal production sees growth in February 2025

Vietnam’s coal production has shown notable progress in the first two months of 2025. According to the latest data from Vietnam’s General Office of Statistics, the country produced 3.44 million tons of  coal in January 2025. In February, this figure rose to an estimated 3.77 million tons.

The cumulative total for the first two months of the year reached 7.21 million tons. This represents a 24.3 percent increase compared to the same period last year. Furthermore, the year-to-date figure reflects a 2.1 percent increase when compared to the first two months of 2024, indicating continued growth in the industry.

Vietnam’s main coal-producing areas are located in the northern region, particularly in Quang Ninh province. This area is home to some of the largest coal reserves in the country, with mines such as those in Ha Long and Cam Pha providing a significant portion of the nation’s coal. Other important coal mining regions include Thanh Hoa and Nghe An provinces, which also contribute to the domestic supply of clean coal.
