Vietnam’s clinker and cement exports soar in October, but year-to-date figures decline

Vietnam’s exports of clinker and cement experienced a significant surge in October 2024, with export volumes reaching 2.73 million tonnes, valued at US$107.32 million. This marks a 35.4 percent increase in volume and an impressive 43.2 percent rise in value compared to September, when 2.02 million tonnes were exported, earning US$74.94 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs

Despite the strong performance in October, year-to-date figures reveal a decline. From January to October, Vietnam exported 25.21 million tonnes of clinker and cement valued at US$967.97 million. This represents a 3.9 percent drop in volume and a 14.1 percent decrease in value compared to the same period in 2023.

The October growth indicates a potential recovery for the sector, but the year-to-date declines suggest persistent challenges, such as fluctuating global demand and competitive pricing pressures. Sustained efforts will be needed to stabilise and improve export performance in the coming months.
