Vietnam-China trade relations

Vietnam and China normalised relations in 1991, restoring diplomatic and economic ties after years of border conflict and tension.

Since then, trade has expanded rapidly, supported by frameworks including the China–Association of Southeast Asian Nations Free Trade Area and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, both of which include Vietnam.

The relationship is marked by deep supply chain integration, particularly in machinery, electronics, textiles and agricultural goods, alongside periodic frictions linked to trade imbalances and broader geopolitical disputes.
