Vietnam-Belgium trade relations
Vietnam and Belgium established diplomatic relations in 1973, laying the groundwork for steadily expanding trade and investment ties.
Belgium has since emerged as an important European gateway for Vietnamese exports, particularly through the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, while Vietnam has become a growing market for Belgian machinery, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and logistics services.
Trade relations are underpinned by the EU–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), which came into force in 2020 and progressively removes tariffs, improves market access and strengthens investment protections.
The agreement has accelerated two-way trade, supported deeper supply-chain integration, and positioned Belgium as a strategic entry point for Vietnamese goods into the European Union, while encouraging Belgian firms to expand operations in Vietnam.
