Vietnam’s coal industry
Vietnam’s coal industry is a key component of its energy mix, supporting power generation, heavy industry, and economic growth.
Domestic production is led by state-owned enterprises, though output has struggled to keep pace with rising demand.
As a result, Vietnam has become a significant coal importer, sourcing supplies from countries such as Indonesia and Australia.
The sector faces growing pressure from energy transition policies, environmental concerns, and the gradual shift toward cleaner power sources.
