Vietnam’s imports from China reached US$16.74 billion in July, an 8.82 percent increase from June, according to the latest data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Year-to-date imports stood at US$101.45 billion, with China remaining Vietnam’s largest source of goods.
Electronics and machinery dominated inflows. Computers, electrical products, and spare parts rose 12.93 percent to US$5.01 billion, while machinery, equipment, tools, and instruments climbed 10.56 percent to US$3.61 billion.
Fabrics fell slightly to US$826.90 million, while mobile phones and parts advanced 11.13 percent to US$762.27 million. Other significant import items included plastics, iron and steel, and base metals, most recording steady growth.
Agricultural and raw material categories showed mixed results.
Fruits and vegetables jumped nearly 39 percent to US$88.52 million, petroleum products surged 42.93 percent to US$82.02 million, and precious metals more than doubled to US$29.36 million.
By contrast, fertilizers, insecticides, and pharmaceutical materials posted declines. Cotton imports collapsed to zero in July.
The figures highlight Vietnam’s structural reliance on China for industrial inputs, especially electronics, machinery, and textiles.
This dependency underscores the importance of Chinese supply chains to Vietnam’s export-oriented manufacturing sectors, even as consumer and resource categories show volatile demand.
