In January, Vietnam’s professional, scientific, and technological activities sector registered a total of US$98.82 million in new foreign direct investment (FDI), according to data from Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment. This represents a decrease of US$151.1 million compared to December, which saw US$249.9 million invested.
The sector accounted for 2.28 percent of total FDI in January, a decrease from 3.65 percent in December.
Vietnam’s professional, scientific, and technological activities sector has been experiencing strong growth, driven by the country’s increasing emphasis on innovation, digital transformation, and integration into the global economy. This sector covers a wide range of activities, including research and development (R&D), IT services, engineering, consulting, and high-tech manufacturing. The demand for professional services, such as management consulting, legal advisory, and architectural services, has also increased as Vietnam’s businesses expand and modernise.

Universities and tech parks are contributing to a developing innovation ecosystem, with sectors such as biotechnology, renewable energy, and electronics benefiting from these advancements. As the country continues to focus on improving its digital infrastructure, fostering a skilled workforce, and enhancing regulatory frameworks, the professional, scientific, and technological activities sector is expected to continue its strong growth, playing a key role in driving Vietnam’s knowledge-based economy forward.
