Plastics: Vietnam imports fall 2.3 percent in April, China main source

Vietnam’s imports of plastics reached US$1.06 billion in April 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a slight decrease of 2.30 percent compared to March, with a year-to-date (YTD) import value of US$4.09 billion.

China remains the top supplier despite a slight decrease:

China was the leading supplier of plastics to Vietnam in April, with imports valued at US$328.50 million. This marks a slight decrease of 2.50 percent from March but still accounts for a dominant 28.91 percent of the total year-to-date imports.

South Korea sees a slight increase but remains a major supplier:

South Korea was the second-largest supplier in April, with imports valued at US$181.30 million, an increase of 3.70 percent from the previous month. South Korea accounts for 17.77 percent of the year-to-date imports.

USA records a significant increase:

Imports from the USA experienced a substantial increase of 19.58 percent in April, reaching US$100.05 million. The USA accounts for 8.45 percent of the year-to-date imports.

Taiwan experiences a decrease but remains a key supplier:

Taiwan supplied US$97.86 million in April, a decrease of 12.82 percent from March, representing 10.14 percent of the YTD.

Saudi Arabia sees a notable decrease:

Imports from Saudi Arabia decreased by 17.30 percent in April, reaching US$72.38 million, accounting for 7.88 percent of the year-to-date imports.

Significant month-on-month increases and decreases:

Philippines experienced the largest month-on-month increase at 159.78 percent, although its overall import value is lower. South Africa and Canada also saw substantial rises. Conversely, Australia experienced the most significant decrease at 53.02 percent, followed by Indonesia at 39.54 percent and India at 39.59 percent.
