Vietnam’s imports of pharmaceutical materials reached US$42.07 million in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a decrease of 5.57 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) import value to US$214.93 million.
China remains the largest supplier, India sees a decline:
China continued to be the primary source for these imports, with a May value of US$32.83 million. This signifies a minor decrease of 1.45 percent from April but still accounts for a dominant 73.97 percent of the total year-to-date imports. India, the second-largest supplier, saw its imports decrease by 25.62 percent to US$6.08 million.
Germany and UK show strong month-on-month growth:
Conversely, some countries exhibited significant month-on-month growth in May:
- Germany recorded an astonishing surge of 476.97 percent, albeit from a low base, reaching US$226,777.
- UK imports jumped by 94.06 percent.
- Spain imports grew by 22.28 percent.
- France imports increased by 9.24 percent.
- The “Other” category also saw a notable increase of 9.29 percent.
Significant decreases in imports:
Conversely, some markets faced substantial declines in imports in May:
- Austria saw the largest drop of 59.86 percent.
- Switzerland imports decreased by 59.26 percent.
- South Korea fell by 48.83 percent.
- Thailand recorded no imports in May after having significant imports in April.
