Sales of the locally assembled Skoda Kushaq have officially started in Vietnam, marking a key milestone for the brand’s expansion in the country, Just Auto has reported–view source.
Key details
- The Kushaq is the first Skoda model to be assembled locally from completely knocked-down (CKD) kits imported from India, leveraging production synergies between the two markets.
- Alongside the Kushaq, Skoda’s current Vietnam line-up includes the Karoq and Kodiaq SUVs, both imported from Europe.
- Local assembly will soon expand to include the Slavia saloon, which will also arrive as CKD kits from India.
- Since entering Vietnam in September 2023, Skoda has established 15 dealerships, including a new ‘Experience Centre’ showroom concept in Hanoi, with further expansion planned this year.
- Skoda aims to reach annual sales of 40,000 units in Vietnam by the early 2030s.
Vietnam’s car market is among the fastest growing in Southeast Asia, supported by rising incomes, a young consumer base, and urbanisation.
Skoda’s move to assemble CKD units locally should keep it competitive on price by helping to avoid Vietnam’s high import taxes on fully built units.
That said, the car market is becoming increasingly competitive with a number of big Chinese brands entering the market in recent years and a significant increase in local sales from Vietnam’s own car brand, VinFast.
