Pastries, sweets and cereal products: Vietnam imports rise 4.60 percent in May

Vietnam’s imports of pastries, sweets, and cereal products reached US$49.24 million in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents an increase of 4.60 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) import value to US$240.10 million.

Indonesia leads the month’s growth, while China sees a decline:

Indonesia was the leading supplier in May, with imports surging by 85.78 percent to US$10.83 million, significantly increasing its market share for the month and accounting for 19.24 percent of the YTD total. Conversely, China, which holds the largest YTD share at 23.64 percent, saw its May imports decrease by 10.04 percent to US$9.69 million.

USA sees a sharp decline, Thailand and South Korea show steady growth:

Imports from the USA plummeted by 51.86 percent in May to US$4.25 million, though it still accounts for 11.05 percent of YTD imports. Thailand and South Korea, however, recorded steady increases of 10.02 percent and 13.49 percent respectively.

Significant month-on-month surges from various markets:

Several countries exhibited remarkable month-on-month growth in May:

  • Netherlands recorded an extraordinary surge of 142.44 percent.
  • Belgium imports jumped by 134.53 percent.
  • Philippines imports surged by 75.07 percent.
  • Malaysia imports grew by 23.92 percent.
  • Singapore and Germany also showed moderate increases.

The overall increase in May’s imports of pastries, sweets, and cereal products suggests a growing demand in Vietnam, driven by strong performance from Indonesia and other smaller markets, despite a downturn from traditional major suppliers like China and the USA.
