Crude oil: Vietnam’s output mixed in first five months of 2025

Vietnam produced an estimated 0.70 million tonnes of crude oil in May 2025, up from 0.63 million tonnes in April, according to Vietnam’s National Statistics Office.

Key details:

  • April 2025 output: 0.63 million tonnes
  • May 2025 estimate: 0.70 million tonnes
  • Cumulative 5-month output: 3.27 million tonnes
  • May year-on-year change: +5.6 percent
  • 5-month year-on-year change: –5.1 percent

While May output rose modestly, overall production in the first five months still lags behind last year.

This highlights ongoing challenges in maintaining oil field output and suggests continued reliance on imports to meet domestic refining and energy needs.
