Vietnam’s imports of iron and steel products reached US$642.50 million in April 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a 3.43 percent increase compared to the import value in March, with a year-to-date import value of US$2.28 billion for this category.
China is the overwhelming leader in iron and steel product supply:
China was the dominant supplier in April, with imports valued at US$468.68 million. This marks a 4.72 percent increase from March and accounts for a commanding 70.52 percent of the total year-to-date imports.
South Korea remains a significant supplier with growth:
South Korea was the second-largest supplier in April, with imports valued at US$64.07 million, an increase of 6.97 percent from the previous month. South Korea accounts for 10.26 percent of the year-to-date imports.
Japan sees a slight decrease in supply:
Imports from Japan experienced a 10.05 percent decrease in April, falling to US$33.64 million. Japan accounts for 5.86 percent of the year-to-date imports.
Taiwan maintains its position:
Taiwan supplied US$15.11 million in April, a decrease of 7.70 percent from March, representing 2.67 percent of the YTD.
Significant month-on-month increases and decreases:
Italy experienced the largest month-on-month increase at 89.54 percent, followed by the UK at 101.87 percent and Spain at 113.95 percent. Conversely, Norway saw the most significant decrease at 91.60 percent, followed by Russia at 97.91 percent and India at 51.90 percent. Imports from Ukraine ceased entirely in April.
