Vietnam’s imports of chemical products reached US$675.98 million in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a modest increase of 2.92 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) import value to US$3.15 billion.
China solidifies its position as the leading supplier:
China remains the primary source for chemical product imports, with a May value of US$288.10 million. This signifies a 3.77 percent increase from April and accounts for a dominant 41.73 percent of the year-to-date imports.
South Korea and Japan experience declines but remain key players:
Imports from South Korea decreased by 8.06 percent to US$71.26 million in May, while imports from Japan saw a 9.93 percent decrease to US$53.56 million. Despite these declines, they remain significant suppliers, accounting for 11.26 percent and 8.28 percent of YTD imports, respectively.
Notable increases from various markets:
Several countries exhibited significant month-on-month growth in May:
- Qatar recorded a remarkable surge of 193.36 percent, though from a low base.
- Russia imports jumped by 113.67 percent.
- Lithuania saw a substantial increase of 100.78 percent.
- Denmark and Ireland both recorded increases of over 90 percent.
- Philippines imports grew by 91.94 percent.
- Turkey saw a strong rise of 55.85 percent.
- Indonesia‘s imports surged by 55.53 percent.
- Spain and UK both experienced increases of over 33 percent.
Significant decreases in imports:
Conversely, some markets faced substantial declines in imports in May:
- Switzerland saw the largest drop of 83.96 percent.
- Finland imports decreased by 54.45 percent.
- Australia fell by 42.20 percent.
- Belgium, New Zealand, and Hong Kong all experienced decreases of over 19 percent.
- Notably, there were no imports from Saudi Arabia in May after imports in April.
Overall, the slight increase in May’s chemical product imports suggests continued demand, with dynamic shifts among suppliers as some experience strong growth while others face declines.
