Glass and glassware: Vietnam imports down slightly in April, China remains top supplier

Vietnam’s imports of glass and glassware reached US$118.85 million in April 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a slight 2.59 percent decrease compared to the import value in March, with a year-to-date import value of US$421.51 million for this category.

China dominates the glass and glassware supply:

China was overwhelmingly the leading supplier of glass and glassware to Vietnam in April, with imports valued at US$78.85 million. This marks a minor 1.99 percent decrease from March but accounts for a dominant 66.67 percent of the total year-to-date imports.

Malaysia remains a significant supplier despite a decrease:

Malaysia was the second-largest supplier in April, with imports valued at US$10.10 million, a decrease of 16 percent from the previous month. Malaysia accounts for 8.09 percent of the year-to-date imports.

Other notable suppliers:

Thailand supplied US$6.51 million in April, an increase of 9.68 percent from March, representing 4.98 percent of the YTD. South Korea’s imports reached US$6.26 million, a decrease of 5.61 percent, accounting for 5.77 percent of the YTD. Japan’s imports were US$5.07 million, a significant decrease of 25.70 percent, contributing 5.38 percent to the year-to-date total.

Significant month-on-month increases and decreases:

The Netherlands saw the largest month-on-month decrease, with imports ceasing entirely in April. Austria experienced a significant drop of 35.59 percent, and Japan also recorded a substantial decrease. Conversely, the USA saw the largest increase at 94.99 percent, although its overall import value is lower.
