Vietnam’s imports of fabrics fell to US$1.16 billion in August, down 4.11 percent from July, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
Year-to-date imports reached US$9.92 billion.
China was the largest supplier at US$817.20 million, down 1.17 percent, accounting for 68.63 percent of total imports.
Taiwan followed at US$122.47 million, up 4.00 percent, while South Korea ranked third with US$91.64 million, down 24.34 percent.
Japan supplied US$57.25 million, down 4.47 percent.
Other suppliers made up small shares.
Thailand provided US$17.24 million, Italy US$12.80 million, and Malaysia US$8.83 million.
Imports from the US rose 29.34 percent to US$4.49 million, while Germany more than doubled to US$2.48 million.
By contrast, imports from Indonesia fell 32.18 percent and France plunged 68.77 percent.
The data highlights Vietnam’s dependence on Asian suppliers, particularly China, Taiwan, and South Korea, which together account for nearly 90 percent of fabric imports.
Smaller partners remain marginal, with sharp fluctuations month-to-month.
