Food & beverage: Vietnam animal and vegetable oil imports up in August on stronger shipments from Indonesia, Malaysia

Vietnam imported US$152.97 million of animal and vegetable fats and oils in August, up 24.32 percent from US$123.05 million in July, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Imports in the first eight months of 2025 reached US$1.02 billion.

Indonesia remained the largest supplier with US$83.96 million in August, up 1.79 percent month-on-month, representing 58.19 percent of year-to-date imports.

Malaysia posted the sharpest growth, more than doubling to US$44.11 million, while Thailand also surged 155.76 percent to US$10.69 million.

India, the fourth-largest supplier, saw exports to Vietnam drop by more than half to US$2.46 million.

Imports from China were broadly steady at US$2.19 million, while smaller suppliers such as Chile and Australia recorded moderate growth.

The import structure highlights Vietnam’s reliance on Southeast Asian neighbours, with Indonesia and Malaysia together accounting for over 80 percent of total year-to-date supply.
