Food & beverage: Vietnam wheat imports surge in August on stronger shipments from Australia, USA

Vietnam imported US$148.80 million of wheat in August, more than doubling from US$60.56 million in July, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Year-to-date imports reached US$1.02 billion.

Australia was the top supplier in August with US$63.44 million, up 200.67 percent month-on-month and accounting for 28.09 percent of year-to-date imports.

The USA followed with US$21.16 million, rising more than tenfold compared to July, and making up 12.51 percent of the total so far this year.

Canada contributed US$17.45 million, though down 16.03 percent month-on-month, while Ukraine supplied US$29.86 million, an 80.52 percent increase.

Smaller suppliers included Kazakhstan at US$1.57 million.

Brazil, despite no shipments in August, remains a significant year-to-date supplier with US$254.41 million or nearly a quarter of Vietnam’s total wheat imports.

Russia also contributed US$40.61 million year-to-date.
