Energy: Vietnam’s top import origins for coal (July 2025)

Vietnam’s imports of coal saw a significant decrease in July 2025, reaching $491,342,077, a -23.88 percent decrease compared to June 2025, according to the latest data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.

Despite this month-on-month decline, the year-to-date total for this product category stood at $4,333,350,789.

In July 2025, the top five origins by dollar value for Vietnam’s imports of coal were:

Australia

Australia remained the top origin in July, with import values reaching $210,205,955.

This represents a -22.22 percent month-on-month decrease from June.

Australia’s year-to-date total for these imports stands at $1,704,611,708, accounting for 39.34 percent of all YTD imports in this category.

Indonesia

Indonesia followed as the second-largest origin, with July imports valued at $105,554,203.

This figure indicates a -47.75 percent month-on-month decrease.

Indonesia’s year-to-date total for these imports is $1,322,271,141, representing 30.51 percent of the total YTD imports for this product category.

Russia

Russia secured the third position in July with imports totaling $100,920,505.

This indicates a significant 73.11 percent month-on-month increase.

Its year-to-date contribution to Vietnam’s imports of coal is $519,686,730, making up 11.99 percent of the total YTD imports.

Other

The “Other” category contributed $54,398,394 worth of coal in July.

This indicates a -36.37 percent month-on-month decrease.

The year-to-date total for this category is $616,783,770, making up 14.23 percent of the total YTD imports.

Laos

Laos rounded out the top five origins with $12,039,573 in July imports.

This country saw a -45.41 percent month-on-month decrease.
