Education costs in Vietnam rise slightly in February: CPI data

Education costs in Vietnam increased by 0.02 percent in February, driven by higher stationery and school supply prices, according to Vietnam’s Consumer Price Index.

Prices of pens increased by 0.3 percent, while stationery and other school supplies saw a 0.37 percent rise. Paper products also experienced a slight increase of 0.1 percent, contributing to the overall uptick in education costs.

Education costs in Vietnam vary significantly depending on the type of institution, the level of education, and whether the school is public or private. Generally, public education is affordable, while private and international schools tend to be more expensive.

Public primary and secondary education is largely free, with only minimal costs for school supplies, uniforms, and extracurricular activities. Additional education-related costs include textbooks, extracurricular activities, and sometimes online or specialized courses. In urban areas, families may spend more on private tutoring and after-school programs, which are common as students and parents strive for academic excellence.

However, private schools and higher education can be more expensive, especially for international programs or institutions.
