Consumer electronics production in Vietnam remains strong despite January slowdown

Vietnam’s consumer electronics industry recorded a significant increase of 286.8 percent in January compared to the 2019 baseline, according to Vietnam’s Industrial Production Index. However, output saw a slight decline from December 2024, which was up 288.9 percent from 2019 levels.

Month-on-month, production fell by 12.9 percent in January compared to December, marking a temporary slowdown. However, year-on-year, output remained strong, rising by 9.7 percent from January 2024.

Vietnam’s consumer electronics industry has grown significantly in recent years, becoming one of the key sectors in the country’s manufacturing landscape. This growth is driven by rising domestic demand, increasing foreign investment, and the country’s strategic location as a manufacturing hub for multinational companies. The industry encompasses a broad range of products, including smartphones, televisions, home appliances, computers, and other personal electronics.

Vietnam has become a major player in the global electronics supply chain, particularly in the assembly and manufacturing of mobile phones and accessories. Major international brands such as Samsung, LG, Panasonic, and Intel have established large-scale production facilities in Vietnam, taking advantage of the country’s relatively low labor costs, skilled workforce, and investment-friendly policies. Samsung, for example, manufactures a significant portion of its smartphones and tablets in Vietnam, making the country one of the leading mobile phone producers in the world.

The growing middle class in Vietnam has also contributed to rising demand for consumer electronics, particularly in urban areas. As incomes increase, more Vietnamese consumers are purchasing household electronics such as refrigerators, washing machines, and air conditioners. The popularity of smart home devices, personal gadgets like smartphones, and digital entertainment products such as televisions and gaming consoles is also on the rise.

Local Vietnamese brands are gaining market share in some segments, particularly in home appliances and personal care products, as they offer competitive pricing and cater to local consumer preferences.

The consumer electronics market in Vietnam is expected to continue growing as the country’s economy expands and the demand for advanced technology products increases. Factors such as improved internet access, rising e-commerce sales, and the increasing adoption of digital services and smart technologies are likely to support the ongoing development of the industry. As a result, Vietnam is poised to remain a key player in both the production and consumption of consumer electronics in Southeast Asia.
