Vietnam welcomed 61,008 tourists from Cambodia in December, an increase of 13,193 visitors compared to November, reflecting a robust month-on-month growth of 27.59 percent, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. Cambodian arrivals reached 474,580 in 2024, representing an 18 percent year-on-year growth.
Cambodian tourists are drawn to Vietnam’s proximity, affordability, and diverse attractions. Popular destinations include Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta, which are easily accessible via land crossings. Many Cambodian visitors also explore cultural sites like the Cu Chi Tunnels, traditional markets, and pagodas in southern Vietnam.
Cambodian tourists typically prefer short-term travel for shopping, business purposes, or leisure. The Tet holiday season and regional events often boost cross-border travel, making December a peak period for tourism. Vietnamese street food and local cuisine are particularly appealing to Cambodian visitors, enhancing their travel experiences.
The surge in December arrivals can also be attributed to improved transportation links, including enhanced bus routes and flight connections between major cities in Cambodia and Vietnam. Airlines like Cambodia Angkor Air and VietJet Air facilitate travel between Phnom Penh and Ho Chi Minh City, contributing to the steady increase in tourist flows.
With Cambodia remaining a key market within ASEAN, Vietnam’s tourism sector continues to benefit from its strong cultural and economic ties with its neighbour. The growth underscores Vietnam’s strategic advantage in attracting regional travellers.
