Vietnam’s production of cement, lime, and plaster increased by 2.6 percent in December compared to November, according to Vietnam’s Industrial Production Index.
Year-on-year, the sector grew by 7.9 percent in December compared to December 2023. However, for the full year of 2024, cumulative growth was a modest 0.3 percent compared to 2023, indicating stabilisation in the industry over the year.
The December growth reflects a rise in construction activity, while the annual growth highlights consistent demand for cement, lime, and plaster in domestic and export markets. The low cumulative growth, however, suggests the industry still faces a number of challenges left over from the hosuing crisis that kicked off in 2022.
Cement and lime production are crucial to Vietnam’s construction sector, which is bolstered by large-scale infrastructure projects and urbanisation. The industry benefits from technological upgrades and efforts to adopt more sustainable production practices, enhancing its competitiveness.
The December performance and annual stability underscore the sector’s importance to Vietnam’s construction-driven economy.
