Cambodian tourist arrivals in Vietnam surge in January

Vietnam recorded 100,150 tourist arrivals from Cambodia in January, making up 4.8 percent of total international visitors, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. This reflects a sharp 64.2 percent increase from December and an impressive 168.6 percent rise year-on-year.

Tourism between Cambodia and Vietnam has grown steadily over the years, driven by historical, cultural, and economic ties between the two neighboring countries. Both nations share deep-rooted connections, with similar cultural practices, language influences, and a rich shared history, making travel between them attractive to tourists. The growing accessibility of transportation options, including bus routes, flights, and border crossings, has further facilitated tourism between the two countries.

Vietnam and Cambodia are both major tourism destinations in Southeast Asia, each offering unique attractions. For Vietnamese tourists, Cambodia’s iconic landmarks like the Angkor Wat temple complex, Phnom Penh’s Royal Palace, and the scenic landscapes of the Mekong Delta are key draws. Similarly, many Cambodian tourists visit Vietnam to explore cultural and natural sites such as Ha Long Bay, Hue’s ancient citadel, and the bustling streets of Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

The tourism flow is supported by increasingly strong diplomatic and trade relations, which have led to the easing of visa policies and stronger connections through air travel. Vietnamese and Cambodian airlines have expanded flight services, while the overland routes linking both countries are popular among tourists seeking an adventurous and more economical travel experience.

In addition to leisure tourism, the exchange of tourists for business, cultural events, and educational purposes has also increased. Over the years, both governments have worked to enhance cooperation in tourism promotion and the development of infrastructure to better cater to the needs of travelers from both countries.

The tourism sector between Cambodia and Vietnam is expected to continue expanding, benefiting from the growing middle class in both countries, improved transportation links, and a focus on cultural exchange and regional tourism development.
