Vietnam’s imports of milk and milk products rise 4.76 percent in January

Vietnam’s imports of milk and milk products increased by 4.76 percent month-on-month in January, reaching US$103.95 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows an increase from US$99.23 million recorded in December.

Year-to-date, Vietnam’s total imports of milk and milk products stood at US$103.95 million. New Zealand remained the largest supplier, contributing US$39.75 million, or 38.2 percent of the total. Australia followed with US$16.53 million, representing 15.9 percent, while Ireland supplied US$7.22 million.

Among major suppliers, Ireland recorded the highest month-on-month growth, increasing 370.04 percent. Thailand also saw a notable increase of 28.32 percent. In contrast, Singapore experienced the sharpest decline, with imports falling 48.27 percent. The USA and Germany also posted significant drops of 34.02 percent and 41.61 percent, respectively.

The industry continues to rely heavily on New Zealand and Australia, which together accounted for more than half of Vietnam’s milk and milk product imports. The dramatic rise in imports from Ireland suggests some shifting sourcing patterns in the sector.
