Vietnam’s exports of bamboo and rattan products reached US$79.93 million in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a modest increase of 1.12 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) export value to US$368.21 million.
USA maintains strong lead with significant growth:
The USA remains the overwhelming primary destination for Vietnamese bamboo and rattan products, with exports reaching US$43.41 million in May. This marks a substantial increase of 17.92 percent from April and accounts for a dominant 46.64 percent of the total year-to-date exports. The continuous strong demand from the US highlights its importance as a key market for these eco-friendly and versatile products.
France, Sweden, and Taiwan show notable surges:
Several markets experienced significant month-on-month growth in May:
- France exports surged by 32.10 percent.
- Sweden saw a strong increase of 33.62 percent.
- Taiwan recorded a remarkable 56.65 percent increase.
- Australia also showed a slight increase of 0.66 percent, while Germany had a modest 5.37% increase.
Significant declines in other key markets:
Conversely, several notable markets experienced substantial declines in May:
- Netherlands saw the largest drop of 57.54 percent.
- Denmark exports plummeted by 59.84 percent.
- Canada exports fell by 38.09 percent.
- China imports decreased by 35.34 percent.
- Russia recorded no imports in May after having imports in April, indicating a 100% decline.
- The UK, Spain, India, South Korea, Italy, and Poland also experienced significant double-digit percentage decreases.
The overall slight increase in May’s bamboo and rattan product exports indicates a resilient sector, heavily reliant on the US market. While demand from the US remains strong, the significant declines in exports to several other major markets suggest a fluctuating global demand or shifts in sourcing patterns.
