ToggleIn October, Vietnam imported US$784 million worth of goods from Australia, up 51.19 percent over September, according to preliminary data from Vietnam’s General Department of Customs.
So far this year, Vietnam has imported US$5,997 million worth of goods from Australia.
Vietnam’s biggest import from Australia in value terms was coal, worth US$252.20 million. This was up 14.47 percent over September. It brings the total imported so far this year to US$2285.46 million.
This was followed by ores and other minerals product, valued at US$130.69 million, up 46.90 percent from September. Year-to-date these imports reached US$1034.95 million.
Other base metals also featured prominently, accounting for US$107.96 million worth of imports from Australia, an increase of 78.12 percent versus September. Total imports so far this year are sitting at US$847.59 million.
Imports of cotton from Australia round out the top five, valued at US$53.83 million.

Vietnam trade with Australia
In October, Vietnam imported goods worth US$783.86 million from Australia and exported US$643.67 million, bringing total trade to US$1427.53 million and resulting in a trade deficit of US$140.20 million.
Two-way trade so far this year between Vietnam and Australia has reached US$11587.82 million, with Vietnam importing US$5996.71 million worth of goods and exporting US$5591.11 million.

Vietnam-Australia trade relations
Vietnam and Australia established diplomatic relations in 1973.
Bilateral trade has expanded under frameworks such as the ASEAN–Australia–New Zealand Free Trade Agreement.
The Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership further deepens market access.
Key Vietnamese exports to Australia include agriculture, seafood, electronics and textiles.
Australia supplies coal, education services, agricultural goods and technical equipment to Vietnam.
Trade volumes have grown steadily as both sides diversify markets and industries.
