American tourist arrivals in Vietnam surge in January

Vietnam welcomed 119,656 tourists from the Americas in January, making up 5.8 percent of total international visitors, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. This represents a 29.8 percent increase from December and a 23.1 percent rise year-on-year.

The United States remained the dominant source of American tourists, with 92,538 arrivals, up 25.5 percent month-on-month and 22.3 percent year-on-year. Canada followed with 18,785 visitors, reflecting a strong 35.3 percent month-on-month increase and a 32.7 percent rise compared to January last year. The category of “Other Americas” saw a significant increase, jumping 82.4 percent month-on-month.

The surge in American tourists reflects increasing interest in Vietnam as a travel destination, driven by improved air connectivity, visa facilitation, and Vietnam’s growing reputation as a must-visit location in Southeast Asia. Key destinations for American visitors include Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, and cultural heritage sites such as Hoi An and Ha Long Bay.
