Vietnam’s iron and steel production remains elevated despite January decline
Vietnam’s iron, steel, and cast iron production surged by 225.2 percent in January compared to the 2019 baseline, according to Vietnam’s Industrial Production Index. However, this marked a decline from December 2024, when output was up 260.2 percent from 2019 levels.
Food and catering service costs in Vietnam increase in January
Food and catering service costs in Vietnam rose by 0.74 percent in January, contributing 0.25 percentage points to the Vietnam’s Consumer Price Index. The increase was driven by food prices rising 0.3 percent, while foodstuff saw a larger gain of 0.97 percent, contributing 0.21 percentage points to the overall CPI.
Water supply and waste treatment sector in Vietnam records US$73.8 million in January FDI
In January, Vietnam’s water supply and waste treatment sector registered a total of US$73.8 million in new foreign direct investment (FDI) across three new projects, according to data from Vietnam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment. This represents a decrease of US$26.5 million compared to December, which saw US$100.3 million in registered capital. No new projects were recorded in December.
American tourist arrivals in Vietnam surge in January
Vietnam welcomed 119,656 tourists from the Americas in January, making up 5.8 percent of total international visitors, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. This represents a 29.8 percent increase from December and a 23.1 percent rise year-on-year.
