Vietnam’s exports of tea reached US$18.66 million in May 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a significant increase of 25.99 percent compared to April, bringing the year-to-date (YTD) export value to US$76.50 million. Vietnam is a major global tea exporter, ranking among the top five.
Top Markets and Notable Increases:
- Taiwan saw an impressive surge of 82.83 percent, reaching US$2.43 million, and accounts for 10.32 percent of YTD exports.
- Germany recorded an outstanding increase of 174.47 percent, albeit from a smaller base.
- Iraq exports jumped by 41.96 percent.
- Saudi Arabia also showed strong growth of 42.63 percent.
- India increased by 55.44 percent.
- Kazakhstan saw a robust increase of 63.46 percent.
- Malaysia exports rose by 29.17 percent.
- Pakistan, the largest YTD market with 34.19 percent of total exports, also saw a healthy 27.04 percent increase in May.
- USA and Russia registered modest increases.
- Notably, Kyrgyzstan, Poland, and Turkey appeared as new export markets in May.
Significant Declines:
- Philippines experienced a sharp decrease of 35.82 percent.
- Indonesia exports fell by 34.50 percent.
- UAE decreased by 31.34 percent.
- China saw a slight decline of 5.95 percent.
The May data for Vietnam’s tea exports indicates a strong positive trend, driven by substantial increases in shipments to Taiwan, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and a consistent performance in the largest market, Pakistan. While some markets experienced declines, the overall growth points to a dynamic and expanding tea export sector for Vietnam, supported by efforts to improve quality and explore new markets.
