Vietnam’s imports of ferrous waste and scrap reached US$200.05 million in April 2025, according to figures released by Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This represents a significant 17.70 percent increase compared to the import value in March, with a year-to-date import value of US$644.88 million for this category.
Japan is the leading supplier with substantial growth:
Japan was the leading supplier of ferrous waste and scrap to Vietnam in April, with imports valued at US$116.61 million. This marks a substantial 28.94 percent increase from March and accounts for a significant 59.00 percent of the total year-to-date imports.
Other notable suppliers:
Australia was the second-largest supplier in April, with imports valued at US$17.43 million, a decrease of 29.87 percent from the previous month. Australia accounts for 8.12 percent of the year-to-date imports. The USA followed with imports of US$15.14 million, an increase of 13.23 percent from March, representing 9.01 percent of the YTD figure. Hong Kong supplied US$10.11 million in April, a decrease of 20.29 percent, contributing 7.38 percent to the YTD total.
Significant month-on-month changes:
The Philippines experienced the largest month-on-month increase at 810.06 percent, although its overall import value remains relatively small. Taiwan also saw a substantial rise of 95.62 percent. Conversely, Chile experienced the most significant decrease at 52.89 percent.
