Vietnam’s rice exports totalled US$443.62 million in November, reflecting a month-on-month decline of 12.2 percent, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. Despite the decrease, the rice sector remains one of Vietnam’s key export categories.
Year-to-date rice exports reached US$5.30 billion, with the Philippines being the top destination, accounting for US$2.47 billion. However, exports to the Philippines saw an 8.38 percent decline compared to October. Other notable markets included Ghana, which experienced a sharp 50.03 percent decrease in rice imports from Vietnam, and the Ivory Coast, with a 21.09 percent drop. Meanwhile, exports to China and Hong Kong grew by 1.73 percent and 17.56 percent, respectively.
The overall decline in November can be attributed to fluctuating demand in major markets. Nevertheless, growth in exports to China and Hong Kong indicates potential for further diversification in the sector. Enhanced competitiveness and targeted trade strategies will be critical for sustaining long-term growth.
