Vietnam’s natural gas extraction declines by 14.5% in February 2025

Vietnam’s natural gas extraction in gaseous form has seen a decrease in the first two months of 2025. According to the latest data from Vietnam’s General Office of Statistics, the country extracted 458.3 million m³ of natural gas in January 2025. In February, this figure dropped.

The cumulative total for the first two months of the year reached 898.3 million m³. This represents a 14.5 percent decrease compared to the same period last year. Furthermore, the year-to-date figure reflects a 15.8 percent decrease when compared to the first two months of 2024, indicating a slight downturn in production.

Vietnam’s primary natural gas production areas are offshore, particularly in the southern regions, including the Nam Con Son and Cuu Long basins. These areas house significant reserves, with extraction activities centred around key gas fields, such as the Dai Hung and Lan Tay fields. Efforts continue to optimise production and explore new reserves to meet the growing energy demands.
