Vietnam’s motorbike production estimated to reach 3.11 million units in 2024

Vietnam’s motorbike production for December 2024 is projected to be 312,300 units, with an estimated total of 3.11 million units for the entire year, according to Vietnam’s General Office of Statistics. This reflects a year-on-year increase of 7.1 percent compared to 2023, indicating strong growth in the sector.

In November 2024, the country produced 279,500 units of motorbikes, demonstrating steady output despite a slight increase in December.

Vietnam’s motorbike production is a vital industry, reflecting the country’s heavy reliance on motorbikes as the primary mode of transportation. Vietnam is one of the largest motorbike markets in the world, with millions of units produced annually to meet domestic and export demand. The industry is supported by both local manufacturers and major international companies, making it a key contributor to Vietnam’s industrial sector and economic growth.

Global brands such as Honda, Yamaha, Suzuki, and Piaggio dominate the market, with Honda accounting for the majority of production and sales. These companies have established large-scale manufacturing facilities in Vietnam, producing a wide range of models, from affordable commuter bikes to high-end scooters. Local manufacturers such as VinFast have also entered the market, focusing on electric motorbikes to align with global trends toward sustainable transportation.

The motorbike industry has evolved alongside Vietnam’s rapid urbanisation, with consumers increasingly favouring automatic scooters and electric models for convenience and environmental benefits. The government’s push for greener transportation, including incentives for electric vehicle production and stricter emissions standards, is reshaping the sector.

Challenges include rising competition, fluctuating raw material costs, and the need to modernise production processes to meet global standards. Despite these challenges, Vietnam’s motorbike production industry is expected to grow steadily, driven by strong domestic demand, export potential, and the transition toward eco-friendly transportation solutions.
