Vietnam welcomed 17,892 tourists from Indonesia in December, an increase of 2,582 visitors compared to November, reflecting a month-on-month growth of 16.86 percent, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Tourism. In 2024, arrivals from Indonesia reached 184,093 arrivals, marking an impressive 74.7 percent year-on-year growth.
Indonesian travellers are drawn to Vietnam for its cultural diversity, shopping opportunities, and vibrant culinary experiences. Popular destinations include Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, and Da Nang, which are well-suited for short-haul travel. Religious and cultural attractions, such as pagodas and museums, also appeal to Indonesian visitors, alongside halal food options increasingly available in major cities.
Beach destinations like Phu Quoc and Nha Trang are becoming popular among Indonesians seeking tropical getaways, while adventure seekers are exploring less-travelled spots like Sapa and Ha Giang. Group tours for families and business travellers are a common trend, particularly during holiday seasons.
Direct flights between Indonesia and Vietnam, operated by Vietnam Airlines, VietJet Air, and Garuda Indonesia, connect major cities like Jakarta and Bali to Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, providing convenient travel options. The increase in December can also be attributed to seasonal travel and promotional efforts targeting Southeast Asian markets.
With strong year-on-year growth and enhanced connectivity, Indonesia remains a key ASEAN market for Vietnam, and the positive trend is expected to continue into the following year.
