Vietnam’s imports of wheat increased by 6.48 percent month-on-month in January, reaching US$107.42 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows an increase from US$100.89 million recorded in December.
Year-to-date, Vietnam’s total imports of wheat stood at US$107.42 million. Brazil became the largest supplier with US$54.28 million, or 50.5 percent of the total, followed by Australia with US$17.20 million, representing 16 percent, and Canada with US$16.61 million.
Among major suppliers, Canada recorded the highest month-on-month growth, increasing by 216.99 percent, while the USA saw a rise of 181.99 percent. In contrast, Ukraine experienced the steepest decline, with imports falling by 94.46 percent. Australia also saw a significant drop of 63.90 percent.
The wheat market in Vietnam is largely dependent on Brazil and Australia, with Brazil now being the dominant supplier. The increases from Canada and the USA suggest some shifts in sourcing patterns, while the drop from Ukraine highlights challenges in its wheat supply.
