Vietnam’s imports of pharmaceutical products fall 51.24 percent in January

Vietnam’s imports of pharmaceutical products decreased by 51.24 percent month-on-month in January, reaching US$252.63 million, according to Vietnam’s General Department of Customs. This follows a sharp decline from US$518.17 million recorded in December.

Year-to-date, Vietnam’s total imports of pharmaceutical products stood at US$252.63 million. France remained the largest supplier, contributing US$29.24 million, or 11.6 percent of the total, followed by India with US$28.44 million, representing 11.3 percent. Italy supplied US$23.51 million.

Among major suppliers, Italy recorded a slight month-on-month increase of 1.86 percent, while Sweden saw the highest growth, rising by 54.93 percent. In contrast, Malaysia experienced the sharpest decline, with imports falling 83.58 percent. Other key suppliers, such as the USA, South Korea, and Japan, also posted significant drops of 79.85 percent, 61.78 percent, and 77.61 percent, respectively.

The pharmaceutical products market in Vietnam continues to be highly reliant on France, India, and Italy, which together accounted for around 34 percent of total imports. While Italy and Sweden showed growth, overall imports from most suppliers declined sharply, indicating changes in global pharmaceutical supply chains.
